The pearl of Kato?

Katowice is not an old city. A few years ago, we celebrated the 150th  anniversary of the city's party. However, there are also historical quarters here. The oldest of them, such as Dąb or Bogucice, date back to the 13th century! Well, it’s true that because of the intense industrialization in the nineteenth century, lost their historical character, becoming then districts of working people. There are many such in Katowice, and I will present one of the most popular.

Nikiszowiec was designed and built at the beginning of the last century (recently it was the centenary of this district) for mining families who then came to Silesia in search of work. This extraordinary housing estate, entirely built of red brick, where each of the buildings in the same style creates a unique whole, has been hailed a historical monument and is one of the most visited places in the city. Today, while maintaining its original character, new restaurants, cafes and art galleries are opening here.

While strolling the streets of Nikiszowiec, it is worth entering the neo-baroque church of St. Anna, which is located in the central square, next to the characteristic post office building, with decorative roses on the facade. Moreover, each of the buildings has its own large courtyard, each of them hides its secrets.😉
